Wisconsin is a great place. I forget sometimes about the things that amuse me about Wisconsin, or simply things that are different there. Here is my list in no particular order:
- The people, they are just more friendly and are definately ‘characters’.
- I forgot about all the cops! Speed traps everywhere!
- The highways are smooth because cars are not allowed studded tires or chains like here in Oregon.
- That everything is green and gold.
- Brat frys outside the local grocery store to raise money for a boy scout troop or church youth.
- The humidity.
- The expanses of farmland.
- The cheese!
- Deep fried cheese curds.
- Old Fashions
- LEINENKUGELS!!!
- Large malls to shop in when there is inclement weather (most days).
- Bratwurst
- Other weird forms of sausages one can find
- That every street in the city is torn up in the summer because the rest of the year you can’t do road construction because of the snow and freezing temperatures.
- Culvers
- Sales tax???
So Joel and I were back in Wisconsin for over a week, and it was grand. We are happy to be back in Oregon now, but we had a great time. Included were the following:
Not a Wisconsin thing, but we had a cowboy on our flight who had spurs on, seriously?
Knit Night with the Oshkosh crew at Starbucks! Aren't we cute!
My dad grilling brats in the backyard.
Me eating said brat with macaroni salad and baked beans, probably one of my favorite meals ever.
My Mom and I made strawberry lavender lemonade!
In a weird chain of events, my parents cat attacked Joel and bit his nose and I just somehow got it on the camera.
We had a campfire and burned stuff.
Joel was happy being outside while watching things burn.
We learned the definition of "Veggie" in Wisconsin
We got to celebrate a wedding with a great friend and her new husband!
We met the new baby Emerson who was only 4 hours old!
He is the recipient of a baby blanket and green sweater I recently knit.
I didn't know I needed a Recombobulation Area, but luckily the Milwaukee airport has one!
It was a great trip home, and it was so great to see everyone and do the things we had been missing from back home, but in another sort of way Portland is our new home and that is nice too.
