We had another great weekend with the parents. I think I got 1 row of knitting done on my socks. But we saw TONS of stuff.

We started out Friday with a tour of Widmer Brothers Brewery, it is close to my house and a fun tour. Plus they have AMAZING German food. Dad and I both had Goulash over spetzle, Mom had chicken schnitzel with spetzle and Joel had sauerbraten with spetzle. Plus we had pretzels and beer. Oops. But it was amazing!! If you ever have the chance to go please do!
Saturday morning we got up and decided to head over to the Waffle Window for some delicious waffles. And they were. We did a little more sight seeing of the city too by visiting the Lone Fir cemetery.

And stopping by Peninsula Park’s beautiful rose garden.

It was then time for Cirque du Cycling near our house. It was definately a circus and quite interesting for my parents I think.

It started off with a drum corp followed by the bike parade. There were tall bikes, chopper bikes, unicyclers, and everything in between.

Then, we thought the parade was done, and out of no where came at least 50 naked bikers! Even I was a little surprised by that!

We then enjoyed the festivities of the festival a bit by getting some free stuff about biking and walking in Portland (score!) and snacks and such. I finally got to show my mom Pistils and some of the other stores we love. Oh, and we had waffles (for the second time that day) at the Flavour Spot! I was amazed by all the bikes everywhere and soooo many people!

We then found an awesome spot to watch the bike races. I think they are called criterion races? They have to go in a winding track around blocks in a loop for an hour. I think they were probably going 35 miles per hour. It was intense. And really awesome!

After dinner at our favorite Thai restauarant we hit the sack and got ready for another day of adventure.
Sunday we headed down the gorge. The morning started off really overcast and even a little sprinkly at times.

We did some hiking and saw a few waterfalls

Dad and I were even feeling a bit adventurous.

And the scenery was just beautiful.

And Joel found berries!

We ventured into Hood River where we visited some wineries (yum!) and found an open fruit stand. Plus, check out the view of Mt. Hood.

We decided to check out one last thing before heading back to Portland and that was the wind surfers on the Columbia river. I am so glad we did because it was so amazing! I had never seen anything like it before. I think they have wake boards and then hold onto a form of a kite/parachute that pulls them down the river. They were doing tricks and jumps and it was so fun to watch. I don’t know if I would do it, but it was interesting! Plus, I couldn’t believe the number of people out there on the river.

And then that was it. We drove back to town, packed up and my parents caught their red-eye flight. It was a really fun visit and we did so much! But I am looking forward to a bit of down time for recovery. I am getting out the spinning wheel again!
