Woven look Scarf

DSC05712

Remember when I showed you the scarf I cast on for here? It is done! And has been for two weeks. The problem is, I just haven’t been able to stop wearing it long enough to take pictures!

I love it! So as my blog post tells me, I cast on 550 stitches for the Scrappy Lengthwise Scarf. I don’t remember the length I intended it to be from my swatch, but the scarf ended up being 98 inches long not including the fringe. I think it has stretched out in its large size. Doesn’t matter, I just wrap it up and it is wonderful!

The stitch pattern is a little futzy at first, but I got used to it pretty quickly. It is the equivalent of 1×1 ribbing in the passing the yarn front and back every stitch. All the yarn is scraps of fingering weight sock yarn. Some was mine and some was donated from some awesome friends (Thanks Veronica and Alli!).

I switched yarn every single row. I did find myself planning out what colors I was placing where, to make a better color pattern in the rows. Every six rows I braided the ends of the yarn to create the fringe.

Overall I am very very happy with the outcome. Yes, the rows went on forever, but I didn’t knit that many rows. 54 total, actually. The scarf ended up about 3″ wide. One thing to note, the front and back sides are different. The back is still attractive, but the knit side is flatter and nicer looking.

I have already started planning future scarves with this same pattern, maybe alternating with two colors every other row, and it would make a really nice plaid look. But I think next time I would use a heavier weight yarn. I would highly recommend this pattern to anyone who is considering it.

Happy New Year!
