I thought that it is probably time to introduce you to my current sweater project.
I was browsing Elann.com one day this summer and came upon this really cool Den-M-Nit Pure Indigo Cotton. It looked so cool and I was excited to make something look like blue jeans but be knitted. I decided I wanted to make some type of sweater that would be a take on a tiny denim jacket.
So I then began the task of finding the right pattern. One thing I had to keep in mind was that this stuff shrinks, so I had to pick a pattern where I could take that into account so that it would fit after I wash it!
I saw Esther on Knitty and really loved the look. But once I started researching on Ravelry I found that a lot of people had fit issues and that scared me with the shrinking issue already being a concern.
Then I found The circular shrug formula. Like I said, a lot of people seemed to have fit concerns with Ester and especially didn’t like the arm holes. The Circular Shrug looked as though this would be less of a problem with the slightly different styling of circular Shrug. Then I decided that I could still do the cables from the Ester pattern because I really liked that look.
Next step, I knit a swatch. I know, I know, I HATE swatching, but with the shrinkage issue I knew it had to be done. Groan. I sent it through the washer and dryer to get it all shrinky shrinky. I then took measurements off that swatch to use in the circular shrug formula. The plan was ready!
I started knitting butt-loads of ribbing, that I thought would NEVER END! It took forever, but I finally got to the cabeling section, yay! So here is what I have to show for myself. I have 3 of 18 cable repeats done in this photo, and then I have to do the same deathly ribbing on top again (not looking forward to it). I hope I can get it done in time to still wear it this fall? We’ll see. So, yeah, like I said, here is it….

I also want to update you on plans for the Christmas stocking that I talked about here. I finally sat down and charted out what I want to do. I am just telling myself that I have to finish the sweater before I can start on the stocking. The plan is to do just one, on a circular needle (which is also being used for the sweater, tricky Keri, tricky) and make an afterthought heel. I have never done this kind of heel before, so I am excited to try it out, because it sounds like fun. The charts are in general representation of the colors, I have not went through the stash yet to see if I have suitable yarn or bought any, so that will wait for another day. And the heel looks weird because I couldn’t figure out quite how to represent that properly. Anyway, here they are!

For your cliffhanger, I am going to the Wisconsin Sheep and Wool Festival tomorrow with Joel. Lots to talk about with Llama fiber (that has barely gotten picked so far) and potential fun things to buy and awesome demos to watch. Hmmmm…….
