It is time to show you all the happy gifts I received over the holidays. I am so excited about them!

These are some beautiful shawl pins that my dad made me from wood from my grandpas. I think they were maple and butternut? One is missing from the photo because it is living on my Hidcote Garden Shawl, and I meant to take a picture but just realized I didn’t. I had hinted to him that I might like A (singular) shawl pin, and he does woodworking and I knew he would make something beautiful. Imagine my surprise and delight when I opened a package to discover 6 beautiful shawl pins, and to learn there are few more in the works that he hadn’t finished! Yay! Now I must knit more shawls! I have told him he should go into business selling these because they are exquisite!

My awesome friend Paul Z. (who brought me to the airport in the middle of the ‘Arctic Blast ‘08′) gifted Joel and I this wonderful yarn. Merino/Alpaca blend. It is beautiful and squishy and I must figure out what to knit with it! I was commanded to knit something for both Joel and I to enjoy, hmmmm.

From my wonderful husband this great jumbo flyer kit for my spinning wheel. Now I can get larger skeins and do more fun artsy yarns. Yay! It is yet to be installed as I have not touched my spinning wheel except for taking it out of the box since October, yikes!

Also from my wonderful husband, this awesome book about interesting felting techniques. Shibori Knits – The Art of Exquisite Felted Knits by Gina Wilde. It is awesome, and I can not wait to try some of the projects! If you are looking for something completely new I would recommend it. It is all about combining traditional felting fibers (wool) with no-felting fibers for really neat effects AND doing crazy things like using marbles or wine corks as assisting elements in creating a totally different look while felting.

The Knitting Answer Book by Margaret Radcliffe. From my parents, this fun knitting books with answers to all sorts of troublesome questions. This could come in handy!

Also from the ‘rents, this super neat book about making skirts, the only problem is the fabric in the model skirts in the book is so cool, I just want that! Sew What! Skirts by Francesca Denhartog & Carole Ann Camp. Super cute!

ooooh Mooi. My in-laws got me this yarn. It is the best-est thing in the whole wide world. I am so excited about it, it is soft and silky with Bison and Cashmere and Bamboo. I have been searching hi and low for something worthy of it, and I decided I must create it myself. Here is a sneak preview.

hmmm, is that a buffalo??
Also from my in-laws I got yarn for a sweater for Joel; a gift for both of us! We are designing the sweater building off a basic top-down raglan. The yarn is not here, it had to be ordered to get enough of the same colorway, so that will be introduced at a later date.

From the in-laws as well are these happy camera accessories for my new baby. External flash, pretty self explanitory. This thing is fancy, and I haven’t really had time to play with it yet, but I am excited by its many features, way above and beyond my old film slr external flash. Also, a remote control which will be great for night time shots with long shutter time, mmmmm. So excited!

Last, but not least, my darling younger older brother (not to be confused with the younger younger brother) got me this book all by himself (my mom was oh so impressed). The Knitter’s Book of Yarn – The Ultimate guide to choosing, using and enjoying yarn by Clara Parkes. It is an amazing book, and I can’t wait to dig into it more. It has everything you want to know about yarn and includes projects too!
I might have forgotten something, so if I did it will appear at a later date. Yay for new beautiful things to play with!
