I want a sweater jacket and I want one now!
So (possibly in part from Old Navy commercials) I have had in the back of my head for the last month that I want a sweater jacket. But I want one now! Not in two months when I knit it, now! But, my non-modivation left me doing nothing about this. Until a week ago.
The knitting girls and I went to the Grand Opening of a new yarn store here in town. It was awesome! A super cute store with really nice people. I was doing a good job of having restraint too! But then after talking to the girls I was telling them of my want of a sweater jacket now, and Lori called me Baruka. Then we started looking at some beautiful Cascade Yarns Eco + Aran/Bulky weight yarn in beautiful colors. With 478 yds per skein. And I decided that it would be my goal to buy yarn that evening and knit a sweater jacket for myself in a week. I did not tell the girls about this deadline though. They helped me pick a gorgeous kiwi green color. We ate good food and drank wine and Lori even won a doorprize and then we all went home.
I immediately set to finding a pattern. It was about 9:30pm on Friday night. I knew I wanted it to be simple enough to knit in a week, but still be cute with some interest, and long, and have a belt, and be raglan. And then I found it. Katje. She was beautiful, and could easily be made longer! Plus, as I continue to loose weight it can overlap in the front and still fit unlike buttoned sweaters.
So, I went upstairs, grabbed an Addi size 10.5 and did the Judy’s Magic Cast on for the top of the hood. I knit about 2 inches before heading to bed. Saturday I knit all day while we went to breakfast with a friend, Cheese Fest (awesome by the way), while walking, riding in the car, etc. Sunday I continued the mad knitting and by Monday I was separating the body from the sleeves. Monday night was Packer night and I knit through the whole game. We had other engagements many nights of the week so I stole knitting moments as I could. Friday I finished the body of the sweater and Saturday I finished the sleeves! Sunday was blocking and drying (and drying and drying) and belt knitting. I did it! Just over a week.
There were only a few things I did differently than the pattern. I lengthened and I did seed stitch at the bottom of the body and the sleeves. I know, I was proud of my pattern following skills.
I was so happy to wear it Monday and surprise the girls at knitting that I had finished it so fast! This is why there was no post yet, because it was supposed to be a surprise. So, now for you, here is Katje!
