The kitchen smells like a brewery?

So Jolyn came over for dinner tonight so we (I) could hem some pants for her.  Here is Jolyn very excited about the evening and wanting to be shown on the blog.

Jolyn!

For dinner we tried our smoker for the first time.  It is of the stovetop variety, where you put wood in the bottom, place the drip tray over that and then the tray the food sits on, and there is a tight cover.  You just turn the stove top on and put food in and you are good to go!  So we smoked some salmon that Joel had marinated in brown sugar, lemon juice and dill.  We also made this delicious rice we found in our Newlywed Cookbook.  It was made by sauteing diced onion and garlic in olive oil, then adding chicken broth, salt, pepper, oregano, toasted pine nuts and rice.  That simmers for a while and is then devoured.  We also made asparagus, as you can see here.  Jolyn was so impressed by the dinner she said I had to take a picture, so here it is.

After dinner Jolyn and I got started on the pants and trou-ser hemming, Joel started on desert.  I had to clear all the half-finished clothing from the sewing machine that I started yesterday.  Did I mention I have a bunch of cute skirts I am making, but messed up the serger.  Yup.  Sucks to be me.  Anyway, hemming went well, and Joel made us these!!!!

Poached Pear Dessert!

Poached Pear Dessert!

This is poached pear with Muscato (because we didn’t have Gewurtztraminer), vanilla and ginger.  OH MY GOODNESS!  It was the perfect ending to a wonderful evening.  Yum!  Good job Joel!  I got half a cable pattern done on the sweater while watching a program about the Dinosaur Mummy.  And now it is time for bed.  Good night everyone!
