Another busy day yesterday!
I started out the morning with digging up my potatoes. I also ripped out the squash and zucchini plants I had chopped off a few days ago.
I also harvested peppers, tomatoes, eggplant, the last of the squash and zucchini, and cucumbers. Check it out!
I was pretty excited about the amount of potatoes, and the suprising ease at which it was to find and remove them from the soil. I thought they would be much deeper and packed in. Joel’s complement to the potatoes was, “They look like real potatoes.” Thanks Joel!
Here are some other garden shots, since I realized it has been a while. Check out the herbs!

(Did I mention I planted chard?)

(Something is eating the new lettuce I planted)

(The poor sunflowers can’t hold themselves up!)
I keep meaning to prune the out of control roses. Since they are beginning to impeed on the front door, it might need to happen soon!

Oh! And I still have fushia blooming!

So after the harvest and photo shoot, I got Joel up and we began cooking! Joel made a huge batch of ratatouille that looked amazing when put into little Tupperware for lunches. I made a huge batch of chill that smelled sooooooo good! There are still all the potatoes and some tomatoes and a bunch of peppers left. What to do…..
So then for a late lunch we headed just a few blocks from our house to the largest Polish Festival on the West Coast! It was so much fun! Joel and I had some yummy food.
I made Joel stop eating so I could get a photo. That almost did not go well. I had Pierogi ruskie (Dumplings stuffed with a mix of potatoes, farmers cheese, onions) and Joel had keilbasa. We both had Polish Honey wine. It was awesome! Speaking for my pierogi, YUM! Like a wonderful take on ravioli. The honey wine was spectacular. We also shared some strawberry pierogi for desert that were good.
We enjoyed the people, bazar booths with fun polish-things in them for sale, singing and dancing. Just check it out!
The groups of performers were from local here in Portland, in the Pacific Northwest like Vancouver BC, and some from Poland! Through the performances we learned some fun facts about Poland and Polish people. It was really fun, because I have spent a lot of time learning about my German heritage, but not so much about my Polish heritage. It was so much fun!
Oh, and then they had a Polka contest for the kids! They were so cute! There was an adult contest we missed, and I am a little sad for that.
On the horizon-there are a few project-in-progress that I have not updated on. A birthday present for a friend, two pairs of socks, and Joel’s sweater that I keep procrastinating. And oh so many things I want to cast on for…
