Big Day…

Man, it has been a big day.

Well, not today, but last night Joel and I’s favorite hometown band was in town!  All the way from Wisconsin.  Cory Chisel & the Wandering Sons.  Check them out, they are pretty awesome!  But I am SOOO not used to staying up that late on a school night, and MAYBE slept through my alarm this morning and had to rush to get to work on time.  But the concert was great!

So it was a long day at work today, but progress was made on some pretty huge projects, and I was BUSY, and I like when I am busy at work, it makes the day go so fast.

Happy news came this morning in the form of a phonecall from my favorite nursery Pistil’s. My worms were ready!

So, now you ask, “what are you talking about?”

Well, when we were at the state fair Saturday we fell victim to the sales pitch of the worm composting guy. So we came home with this!

It came with everything we needed except the worms. Thats where Pistil’s comes in. They provide awesome things like that. So they called this morning, and all day I got to look forward to picking up my pound o’ red worms :)

Here is what it looked like inside

You can see a few of them playing around toward the top. But here is a better view once it went into the compost bin.

So the concept is you put these worms in and feed them shredded newspaper and food scraps and they turn it into happy compost. They also will reproduce and this bin will hold up to 9 pounds of worms! I am so excited for this! It is called an upward migrating worm compost bin because as bins fill you put a new bin on top and begin feeding into that and the worms slowly migrate up and the happy compost stays at the bottom. Brilliant! Plus it is a product of the Northwest, the company is out of the Seattle area and the bins were all injection molded here in Portland!

So after all that excitement and realizing I had barely eaten all day from my busy day, we made my favorite food in the whole world that I have not had since I started weight watchers. Homemade baked mac & cheese. UUUHHH!

Look how good it is! We did it in the skillet and browned it so the bread-crumbs on top got all crispy. It was AMAZING! Seriously. Mac & cheese is definitely my last meal if I have the choice.
