Hong Kong – it’s time to go home

Thursday morning we took the train into Hong Kong. It was a full out locomotive-train. Kind of neat. We got to the hotel and immediately had a meeting with a vendor. He took us to their factory in Hong Kong, it is amazing they can squish factories into the city of Hong Kong! We then had a delicious Chinese lunch. I had had a sore throat for a few days and had lost my voice so he ordered us some nice soup with noodles and vegetables in it. It was really good and actually did ease my sore throat. Luckily drinking hot tea everywhere helps too. It is just weird to not have much of a voice when trying to meet people for the first time and ask them questions. I sound like a 100 year old smoker.

After that visit we had a few minutes to check in to the Hotel and then it was time for another meeting. After that meeting the vendor took us out for a ‘US style dinner’….steak. I had so much food but it was so amazing that I think it was worth it. I rarely have good steak when dining out but this was superb. Plus we had crab cakes and smokes salmon and seared tuna and sides and desert like banana cream pie and bread pudding. Oh, and some wine. It was amazing and like 3-4 hours long. I quite enjoy this vendor, I have met him a few times and it was a great dinner of just relaxing and talking.

Friday I had some free time so I decided to go adventure around the city some more. I love all the street markets:

I found 1 new yarn shop to visit and 1 previous I wanted to visit again. I found a few things to bring back with me, more on that when I get home, since it is all nicely packed in my suitcase now.

For lunch I had some dim sum and what I have been waiting for… Mango pudding with Sago and Mango (Sago is tapioca)

It was amazing, just as I remembered. Mmmm Mango!

I had an extra hour to kill so I decided to walk off lunch in the shopping mall next to the hotel (since it is air conditioned). It is all high end shops and boutiques, and then look who I saw…..

It’s BURT!

We then went off to adventure to the other side of Hong Kong Island. This is apparently where the British first landed. It is amazing how big Hong Kong really is, and how many different areas there are!

This is Stanley Market area. There are British and American style pubs on this bay, some shops and galleries, and a few street vendors and tourist shops. Apparently there is a big dragon boat festival/race every year here.

Then we headed up to the peak. First we started at the general viewing area and had a nice view to the south, not quite where the Stanley Market is, but in that general direction:

Then we headed up to the top of this building for the BIG viewing deck:

And just as we were getting up there it began getting dark. Check out this amazing view. What a great way to end my trip!

Thank you China and Hong Kong for a wonderful trip! But I am SO ready to be going home now! I leave in just a few minutes for the airport and head home. I miss home.
