Food Post

Tuesday night was the last night in Huizhou.  We got all our work finished up and headed to dinner.  We walked through town to what I was told was a really good Korean restaurant.  All of a sudden Cody walked into a conveneince type store and started walking up a flight of stairs.  Hmm.  Jeff and I followed and after 2 flights found our way into what was indeed a Korean restaurant.  Nothing to rave about in looks, but it was really good.  We had a bunch of pickled vegetables, kimchee, seaweed, barbecue meat, fish, ginger chicken soup, spicy noodles, and much more.  We washed it down with some yummy Tsing Tao beer.  Yummy!  There were a few things I could not eat because they were too spicy, but overall it was really, really good.

This morning we headed back to Hong Kong with a nice long drive.  I was again reminded by how crazy people drive here.  There were times where I got really nervous, so I needed to just stop watching.  Oh, and Jeff and I saw a stuck container truck that was being lifted from the back with a front end loader.  It was humorous, but we were speeding past and missed the excitement.

We made it back in time for a late lunch at a great hole in the wall Japanese sushi restaurant.  It. was. amazing.  PERIOD.  The fish just melted in my mouth it was so fresh and good.  The best part?  I got a big bowl of rice with a pile of different fish on top, salad, soup, appetizer and tea for, get this, $9!  Nuts.

The afternoon was spent visiting a few shops including the Opal Mine.  They had some beautiful opals, but I just couldn’t buy any.  Plus the sales staff was a little pushy and intimidating.  I couldn’t believe all the shops offering very fast tailor made suits for cheap.  I got asked a million times walking in 3 blocks if I needed a suit.  Nope!  Oh, and I saw Geoduck for sale on the street!  And it did not even try to attack me!

Our hotel here in Hong Kong time #2 is ok.  There is nothing really to rave about, pretty standard hotel room really.  But the lobby reminds me of being in an ice cave.

So then we went out for our last meal and I was told it was going to be seafood.  Boy was it ever.  We were in the car for over 30 minutes going somewhere in the New Territories on the water.  I learned it used to be a seafood market in the older days.

We arrived at our restaurant, and before we were seated we got to pick out our dinner!  Check it out!

It was so amazing.  The food was so fresh and perfectly cooked and just amazing.  Words are really not needed.

We were seated right out on the street in front of the restaurant, right next to the water were the boats were parked for the night.  So awesome!

Then we walked to another local specialty shop for dessert.  These were amazing.  Many different combinations of mostly mango and tapioca pearls.  I tried grass jelly which is jello seasoned with herbs, but is pretty tasteless so it is great for texture.

So now I am back at the hotel, just getting myself ready for the long day ahead tomorrow.  It will be a long day and another long flight.  I have had such an awesome time, but I am excited to be home.

See more photos of the fish and more here.
