Terrariums!

There is a beautiful nursery here in Portland that has tons terrariums that I have been ogling over.  The problem is that because they are so beautiful they are a bit expensive.  Since I am cheap my typical response is…I could make that!

So I did!

So, I have learned it is super easy.  The main thing to remember is that you should plant plants of similar light and water needs together.  Also, you need to put a layer of charcoal on the bottom for nutrients.

I found some horticultural charcoal at Fred Meyer, Potting soil in some empty flower pots, aquarium gravel left over from some other project, and some vases I already had.  I did buy some beautiful plants from the nursery to put in the terrariums.

Here is what you do.

1.  Put a layer of charcoal on the bottom of the vase

2.  Put a larger layer of soil, deep enough for the plant roots to grow.

3.  Plant the plants into the dirt in the vase.

4.  Put a layer of small gravel or rocks on top to make it look pretty.

5.  Enjoy!

This is an air plant! How Cool!
