Llama Ddrama

Ok. So I had some time yesterday and decided I would begin to go through the llama.  I created a llama picking station in my driveway which consisted of a window screen from our front window propped up on my sawhorses.  I then dumped a big pile of llama on it and proceeded to pick.  I was picking out the short little second cuts, large bits of VM I could find and sorting it by color and hair quality.  I have a pile of fine brown hairs, white hairs and coarse brown/black hairs.  Oh my goodness.  I spent about 2.5 hours and got through half of the smallest bag (I am guessing about 5 lbs total).  Did I mention there are 55 lbs total!

Ok, seriously!  How am I ever going to get through all of this?  It seems a daunting task of something that I was very excited for very recently.  I am going to try to get some of DH’s help Friday night and I hope to find more time Saturday morning and Sunday in the midst of Labor day weekend happenings.  I hope that it begins to go faster as I get better at it?  I am having such a large push for this because next weekend is the Wisconsin Sheep and Wool Festival, and I have been told it should be a really good place to talk to people about getting it processed, and my hope is to have it ready if someone is interested in taking it and offers me the right price.  Plus, it would be good to know how much of what color I have as I am talking to them and I plan to bring along samples of the different types of fibers in my collection.

I have also made the decision that I will sell some of it once it is processed.  There is no way I am EVER going to spin and knit this much fiber.  And that way I can make money back on what I will have to have it processed.

Oh, and I am thinking about talking to the processors to see if I can get it mixed with some wool.  This would be the perfect place to find someone that has some, so I am excited about that.

I hope I don’t begin to hate this fiber.  It seems a bit overwhelming right now, but I am so excited to use it and have the pride that I had my hand in so many steps of it’s turning into a finished project.  Now to just get the dang stuff ready to be processed!
